Coach Pitch Bats

(21 products)

Coach pitch bats, also sold as junior big barrel bats, are 25" to 27" bats with a full 2 3/4" barrel and a light -10 or -11 drop. They are built for 6 to 8 year olds in coach pitch and machine pitch who have graduated from tee ball but are not ready for a 28" bat. Every bat here carries the USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp; they are travel ball bats scaled down, and they are not legal in Little League.

The lineup is the same names you will find in the big-kid USSSA rack: Easton Hype Fire and Mav1 Flash, Marucci CAT X and F5, Victus Vibe Crayon (including the Tatis, Julio Rodriguez and Bobby Witt colorways), Vandal LEV3, Rawlings Icon Composite and Clout AI. Prices run from about $60 for an alloy to $300 for a composite.

If your league requires USA Baseball, shop a 26" to 27" bat in USA bats instead.

Coach Pitch Bats

Why the big barrel helps at this age

A 6 or 7 year old facing a pitching machine has a small window to make contact. The 2 3/4" barrel on a junior big barrel bat gives them the most hitting surface of any bat they will ever swing, and the -10 to -11 drop keeps it light enough to get through the zone. It is the easiest bat in the game to hit with, which is the point.

Composite or alloy? Alloy junior big barrels (Clout AI, Vibe Crayon, F5) are $60 to $130 and ready to go. Composite (Hype Fire, CAT X Composite, Icon) cost $180 to $300, have a bigger sweet spot and need a short break-in. For a first coach pitch season, alloy is plenty.

Which length? 26" for most 6 and 7 year olds, 27" for 8 year olds and tall 7s, 25" for a small 6 year old. Knob at mid-hip when the bat stands next to the player.
