All Star Top Star Youth Baseball Catcher's Mitt 31.5" CM-TS-Y — Premium steerhide, 31.5" catcher pattern, right- or left-hand throw.
Description
The Top Star Youth is the mitt All Star builds for the young catcher who is past the beginner stage. The 31.5" pattern is the same youth size as the Future Star, but the materials are a level up: premium tanned steerhide that gives the feel, comfort and signature sound All Star is known for, premium lacing, and 360 dual stitching so the mitt handles the extra innings a travel schedule brings. An extended pocket and adjustable wrist closure fit it to the player.
The features that matter behind the plate are the built-in index-finger flexpad and Pro Guard Padding in the palm, which together let a 10- to 12-year-old handle the velocity and movement that come as pitchers get better. It has the classic All Star look in black and tan and is offered in right- and left-hand throw, with a one-year All Star limited warranty.

How much break-in does it need?
Some. The Top Star's premium steerhide is firmer than the Future Star's leather, so plan on a couple of weeks of catch and bullpens to form the pocket. Work the pocket by hand and with a mallet; skip the oven and microwave.
Is 31.5" the right size?
31.5" is the youth pattern for roughly 9- to 12-year-olds. A 13-year-old or a big-handed 12-year-old should be in a 33.5".
