The Mizuno Prospect is a youth glove built so a young player can actually close it. PowerClose technology and a V-Flex notch make the glove fold easily around the ball, the ParaShock palm pad takes the sting out of catching, and the full-grain leather shell holds its shape while the ButterSoft palm liner keeps it comfortable. The Prospect Finch series is the fastpitch version designed with Jennie Finch, with a full-grain leather palm and the same catch-friendly tech.

On the rack you will find PowerClose youth baseball gloves from 9" to 11.5", Prospect Select 12" youth gloves, Prospect Finch fastpitch gloves at 10", 11" and 11.5" with Tartan Flex and H webs, a 12.5" first base mitt and youth catcher's mitts at 31.5" and 32.5". Nearly all come in right and left-hand throw. Prices run from about $35 to $75, with 2027 Finch models alongside the current line.

Sizing a first glove

A 9" or 10" glove suits tee ball and the youngest coach-pitch players, 10.5" to 11" covers most 7 to 9 year olds, and 11.5" to 12" is the right size for a 10 to 12 year old infielder. Buy the size the player can close today, not the size they will grow into; the whole point of PowerClose is that the glove works now. Fastpitch players follow the same rule with the Finch gloves, which run 10" to 11.5".

Young catchers get a real mitt here too: the 31.5" and 32.5" Prospect catcher's mitts carry the same PowerClose and V-Flex closure with the ParaShock pad, and the 32.5" is offered in a fastpitch version.

Frequently asked questions

Does a Prospect need a break-in? Almost none. The whole design is built around a young player closing it out of the box.

Which web? The Finch gloves use a Tartan Flex web in the 10" and 11" and an H web in the 11.5"; the baseball PowerClose gloves use a closed, catch-friendly web. At this age the web matters less than the size.

Left-hand throw? Yes on nearly every model.

What is the warranty? One year from Mizuno.
