Rawlings R9 Series First Base Mitt 12.5" R9FM18BG — Rawlings builds the R9 as the sensible middle of the glove wall: a soft all-leather shell that arrives about 80% broken in, padded thumb sleeve and palm, and a price well under the pro lines. This is the 12.5" FM18 pattern with a Modified Pro H web in Black / Gold.
Description
The R9 is the glove for the player who wants real leather without the month-long break-in or the Heart of the Hide price. Rawlings picks a softer hide and pre-shapes the pocket at the factory, so a few sessions of catch make it game-ready; padded palm and finger linings take the sting out of a hard throw. The conventional back with a padded thumb sleeve is the same construction Rawlings uses on its adult lines.

Soft All-Leather Shell — 80% Broken In
Rawlings chooses a leather for the R9 that arrives most of the way broken in. A few games of catch and the pocket is yours; there is no fight with a stiff pro hide.
Padded Thumb Sleeve and Palm
Extra padding where the ball hits — the thumb sleeve and the heel of the palm — so a hard throw stings less, which matters for a player still learning to catch it in the pocket.
12.5" FM18 Pattern
The 12.5" first base pattern is a wide, flat target with a deep pocket — long enough to stretch for a throw, deep enough to swallow a short-hop out of the dirt. A conventional back with a padded thumb sleeve takes the sting out of hard throws across the diamond.
