Most glove lines skip the years between a youth glove and a pro glove. The NXT is Rawlings' answer for the serious 12 to 15 year old: the same patterns the Heart of the Hide and R9 lines use, cut smaller through the wrist and fingers with a ContoUR fit, in a soft game-ready leather with padded palm and finger linings so a teenager can break it in without help.

Sizes run 11.25" to 12.5" across the 204, 205, 207, 234, 302, 312 and 314 patterns with Pro I, Pro H and split single post webs. Colorways lean bright (pink and mint, Columbia blue, gray and mint) with a few traditional tan and black options. Most are right-hand throw; the 12.5" 302 is offered in both hands. Every NXT is $179.99.

Who the NXT is for

The NXT is priced for a glove that will be outgrown in two seasons and built well enough to be handed down when it is. The patterns are real pro patterns, so a kid who learns the 204 or 205 in an NXT can move straight to the same number in R9 or Heart of the Hide later. The ContoUR fit lowers the finger stalls and tightens the hand opening for hands that have not finished growing, which is the difference between a glove that closes and a glove that flops.

How does the NXT compare to a Heart of the Hide? Same pattern shapes, smaller cut, softer leather. A Heart of the Hide is firmer steerhide built to last many seasons; the NXT is meant to be game-ready in days and to fit a hand that is still growing.

What size should a 12 to 15 year old get? Infielders usually take the 11.25" to 11.75" patterns (204, 205, 234, 312, 314). Utility players and third basemen like the 12.25" 207. Outfielders take the 12.5" 302.

Does the NXT come in left-hand throw? Only the 12.5" 302 outfield pattern here is offered in both hands; the rest are right-hand throw.

Is a ContoUR fit the same as a youth glove? No. Youth gloves are shortened patterns. ContoUR keeps the full pattern length and web but narrows the fit, so the glove plays like a pro glove on a smaller hand.
