Pro Preferred is the top of the Rawlings line — the glove a big leaguer is handed when he wants the best one Rawlings builds. The shell is full-grain Kip leather, a tighter, finer grain than steerhide: it weighs less for the same thickness, breaks in stiff and then holds its shape for years rather than going soft. Every glove is individually numbered.
Inside, the details are where the money goes. The palm is lined with Pittards sheepskin, which wicks moisture and keeps the hand from sliding under a hot afternoon. The wrist strap and padded thumb sleeve are 100% wool, and 100% wool padding runs through the pocket — it compresses slowly and forms to your hand instead of flattening out. Expect a real break-in period; this is not a glove you take out of the box and start a game with, and that is the point.
Which size?
Middle infielders 11.5"–11.75", third base and pitchers 11.75"–12", outfielders 12.75". First base mitts run 12.75"–13"; catcher's mitts 33"–34". Patterns here include the 204 and 314 I-webs, the 934 and 205, the 206 pitcher's pattern and the 3039 outfield.
