The R9 is Rawlings' step-up fastpitch glove: a soft, durable all-leather shell that is 80% broken in out of the box, a padded thumb sleeve and palm, a pull-strap back and a hand opening cut for a fastpitch player. It is the glove for the travel-ball player who has outgrown a synthetic and is not ready for a $200 Liberty Advanced.

Soft, Durable All-Leather Shell — 80% Broken In
Rawlings picks a leather for the R9 that arrives most of the way broken in. A few games of catch and the pocket is yours; there is no month-long fight with a stiff pro hide.
Padded Thumb Sleeve and Palm
Extra padding where the ball hits — the thumb sleeve and the heel of the palm — so a hard throw stings less, which matters for a younger player still learning to catch it in the pocket.
