Marucci CatX Composite Bats

(14 products)

The CATX Composite is the two-piece, all-composite side of the CAT family. The barrel is Marucci's MDX composite, an aerospace-grade carbon fiber laid at extra angles for a responsive, forgiving hitting surface, joined to the handle by the OLS (Outer Locking System) with threaded grooves that hold the two pieces together and kill vibration. The CATX version got a stiffer handle than the CAT 9 Composite and a comfort knob; the CATX2 Composite keeps the ring-free MDX barrel, moves to an S-25 handle, and adds an improved multi-directional layup for better performance out of the wrapper. The swing is slightly end-loaded, which suits both power and contact hitters.

The rack has CATX and CATX2 Composite in BBCOR -3 and USSSA -5, -8 and -10, a 26" Junior Big Barrel -10, plus the newer RCKLESS composite models. Prices run from about $140 to $350.

The alloy versions are in the CATX and CATX2 collections, and the newest composites are in the RCKLESS line. See all Marucci baseball bats or the whole Marucci USSSA bat wall.

Marucci CatX Composite Bats

Composite versus alloy in the CAT family

Marucci's alloy CATs are game-ready on day one and give a stiffer, more traditional feel. The composite models trade that for a barrel that flexes on contact, a wider effective sweet spot, and less sting. MDX composite is durable and responsive, and Marucci lays the fibers at additional angles in the barrel so more of the hitting surface acts like the sweet spot. Handle stiffness and taper are tuned per drop weight so a -10 and a -5 don't share one handle.

The Junior Big Barrel -10 at 26" brings the same MDX barrel down to coach-pitch age, and the RCKLESS Comp and Rewind Comp are the current-season composites with the FLEX barrel and OLS connection.

Frequently asked questions

Does a CATX Composite need a break-in? Yes. Give it a couple hundred hits off a tee or soft toss before games; composite barrels loosen and gain response with use.

Is it legal in USSSA and BBCOR? The USSSA models carry the 1.15 BPF stamp and the BBCOR model carries the .50 stamp.

Which drop should I choose? -10 is the default for most youth travel hitters, -8 for 11U to 13U, -5 for strong 13U and 14U, and -3 for high school.

What about warranty? Marucci includes a 12-month warranty against defects when bought from an authorized dealer like CheapBats. Listings marked DEMO NO WARRANTY are exactly that.
