Rawlings Renegade Gloves

(10 products)

Renegade is the glove Rawlings builds for the player who wants real leather without a pro-shop price. The shell is oil-tanned full-grain leather with leather lacing and a lightweight pro mesh back, and Rawlings quotes the break-in at 80% factory, 20% player. High-density cushioned pads in the palm and index finger take the sting out of hard throws.

The rack here is mostly adult softball and specialty positions: 12", 12.5", 13" and 14" baseball and slowpitch patterns, 12.5" first base mitts for baseball and slowpitch, an 11.5" youth first base mitt, and 31.5" youth and 32.5" adult catcher's mitts. Most come in both right- and left-hand throw. Prices run from about $60 to $70.

For a step up in leather at a similar price see Sandlot. More slowpitch options are under Rawlings slowpitch gloves, mitts under Rawlings catcher's mitts and Rawlings first base gloves.

What you get with a Renegade

The Renegade keeps the parts that matter (a full-grain leather shell and palm, leather laces, padded palm and finger) and saves money on the back, which is a pro mesh panel instead of leather. Mesh is lighter and cooler and it makes the glove close faster, which suits rec-league players and adults who play once a week and do not want to spend a month breaking in a glove.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Renegade a baseball glove or a softball glove? Both. The 12" and 12.5" models are marked baseball/slowpitch, and the 13" and 14" patterns are slowpitch sizes. The catcher's mitts and 11.5" first base mitt are baseball.

How long does break-in take? Not long. Rawlings rates it 80% broken in from the factory, so a few games of catch finishes the job.

Do the catcher's mitts come in left-hand throw? The 32.5" adult mitt is listed in both hands; the 31.5" youth mitt is right-hand throw only.

What is the difference between Renegade and Sandlot? Sandlot uses a full-grain oiled leather shell all the way around with Zero Shock palm pads and carries a one-year warranty. Renegade swaps in a mesh back to get the price down and the break-in faster.
